In the modern world, everybody is in need of a job irrespective of their age, gender and situation. There are millions of students who are working while studying whether part-time or full-time. So, it is important for them to understand the process of maintaining the balance between their studies, commitments, social life and job work at the same time. The way of balancing study and work at the same time can be achieved with some self-discipline and planning, whether a student is working to pay their bills or has completed the course to have the advancement in professional skills. There are certain steps that will allow the students to well-maintained both aspects, some of them are:
1. Aware of more information – There are situations for the working student when they have to manage both timings due to the clash in schedules. It is important to inform your boss or the manager about the informalities of your life in advance. As early as possible, the timings of the class, exams, and group study sessions can be determined by marking the dates on the calendar. If prior information or notice is given to the job manager, then there are more chances to perform your studies rather than doing your job assignments. Also, you can take advice from the student centre in the university and try to find a better solution, if they have some information regarding the financial and job commitments of the students.
2. Follow up on your pre-planned schedule – To manage your priorities, planning a schedule is considered the best option. You can stick best to the detailed calendar that has been used for the markings. A student needs to include everything in the planned schedule including study time, work time, due dates, appointments, and various other obligations. This will help them to understand their leisure and social time. Also, a student can colour code each happening task or commitment in their schedule calendar.
3. Plan for the unexpected – It is important to stick to the schedule you have planned, but there are some situations when unexpected things happen to anybody at any time. So, a student should allot some time in their schedule so that if something happens suddenly, neither their jobs nor their studies could be affected. This will also help in the reduction of stress and burden.
4. Don’t leave anything to the last minute – Always keep in mind to complete things before your deadlines. The last-minute assignments or studies do not allow for performing effectively and efficiently. To avoid this, you can break down your whole assignment into small steps and mark them as you finish with them.
This method could help you in reducing your stress level, provide better quality work and allow you to continue performing well in both the job and the studies. To well manage study time and help students, there are multiple applications available for managing tasks and productivity. For instance, the freedom application will allow the student to manage all the disturbances by blocking the social media and the internet on different devices. Also, there is an application known as Wunderlist that allows making the settings of reminders and goals so that you can check and schedule everything properly.
5. Learn to manage stress – It can be stressful for a person to study and work at the same time, but there are certain methods through which we can maintain the stress of a student. For this, you need to only find a way that could best suit your requirements. Several activities including practicing yoga, breathing exercises and meditation could help the student in stress reduction along with providing benefits for both the mental and the physical health. For increasing focus, centred and productivity, stress reduction is a must. With this, you can best work to your ability. There are certain educational institutions that allow student services and support staff to speak if they are struggling to manage their stress.
6. Stay healthy – To perform better and efficiently, it is important to keep yourself fit and healthy. A student can boost their brain and improve the performance of their body by eating nutritious food, exercising more and getting enough sleep. It will help the person to improve their productivity and memory along with increasing the decision-making skills and focus with which you can process your information even faster.
7. Reward yourself – Always try to appreciate and reward yourself, whenever you complete a task successfully. Perform some activities that could refresh you in a better way. But remember to reward only things that you are looking for some period of time. It will encourage and motivate you to be the best and help you work hard and strengthen some good habits.
8. Focus on your goal and the reward – It is important to focus on the goal that you have set if you choose to work while studying or vice-versa. Also, a vision board can be created with which you can write everything, let your friends and family know about your goal and ask them to remind you consistently.
9. Set boundaries – If someone asks you to do something or some work, you should not keep it as a priority. You need to immediately say “no”. Maintaining the balance between your studies and your work is considered the simplest way. So, try to set the boundaries based on what is realistic.
10. Find work in your chosen industry – The most effective and efficient way to maintain the balance between your studies and your job is to find or choose the industry in which you are already studying. At work, you can apply the knowledge and the skills you learn during your learning days and vice-versa. With this, you can get more experience, support and advice by working and studying together.
11. Use scholarship grants – A student can apply for grants and scholarships in their learning days which are considered as the best help for textbooks and tuition fees. To pay for your studies, you can also make use of the money earned from your work. Also, you can reduce your interest payments if you have a student’s debt or loan. If someone pays off for their own education, it helps them to increase their overall well-being and happiness, which is considered as the emotional balance.
